My great great grandfather was Harry Thomas Ricketts, born 1849 in Maidstone, Kent.
In his Army records he lists his next of kin as William Shackleton and Lucy Shackleton of 30 Wellington Street, Victoria Park. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the couple listed in the 1871 census as living at that address in Bethnal Green.
What was the connection? Was Lucy Harry's mother from a previous marriage?
Harry also listed Alexander Ricketts and Eliza Ricketts in his NOK.
      Thanks, Henry

I have to say that if Lucy had reverted to her maiden name, it would not be the first time I had seen that happen, so I am not going to rule out a previous marriage entirely. However, there doesn't seem to be a great deal in the way of a record of one.
This is from Harry Thomas Ricketts' Army next of kin record:
      Stepfather: William Shackleton
      Mother: Lucy Shackleton
      Brother: Alexander Ricketts
      Sister: Eliza Ricketts.
The address given for the next of kin is: 30 Wellington Street, Victoria Park, London.
That address is the same as the one for Lucy/William Shackleton on the 1871 census return. Interestingly there is a Thomas Ricketts (age 52) listed as a boarder at the same address.
Lucy's marriage to William was later in life - it appears that he had children from another woman.
