- [S154] Connie Jones, Connie Jones, (-2010), Paul, This is Connie Jones nee Featherstone again....I was just going through some things online, and came across John Featherstone and Jane Featherstone nee Whiffen. You have all of their children listed, but Daniel Featherstone b. August 1, 1831 does not show him having any children. This was my GGGrandfather, and I can give you this list of children he fathered with Janette Featherstone nee Drummond. (He was born in England, and she in Scotland.)
Anyway, their children are as follows:
Janette was married 3 times. Her first marriage was to a man named Alexander McPherson from Scotland, but they were married in Porter, Wisconsin, USA. From this marriage they had 2 daughters Her second marriage was to a Mr. Shepherd. And Daniel Featherstone was her 3rd marriage.
1.Celia McPherson b. 1851 in Rock Co, Wisconsin married abt. 1868 to Benjamin Peach; d. aft. 1873
2. Jenet McPherson b. 1853 Rock Co, Wisconsin married abt. 1873 to Samuel Knight; d. aft. 1880.
3. Mary Jane Featherstone b. July 5, 1858 Town of Porter, Rock County, Wisconsin m. 12 March 1883 to Samuel A. Whiteman; d. May 19, 1932
4. John Featherstone b. April 1860, Town of Porter, Rock Co., Wisconsin 1st m. Elizabeth McElwain, 2nd m. Cora Butters, divorced 1896-1910, 3rd m. 1910 to Myrtle Coleman; d. Spring 1919 in Oakes, North Dakota, USA
5. Nellie Featherstone b. January 18, 1861 in Rock County, Wisconsin
6. Daniel Featherstone (my great grandfather) b. April 18, 1863 Rock County, Wisconsin; m. Anna Pauline Whiteman; d. July 7, 1934 Rock County Wisconsin
7. Sophia Featherstone b. December. 19, 1864, Rock County, Wisconsin
8. George Henry b. July 2, 1869 in Fulton, Wisconsin; m. June 25, 1895 to Elva Lugg; d. July 1931
All 8 of these children lived with Daniel and Janette.
As far as when, and to where Daniel emigrated, that is another brick wall I am having problems with. I do know that in the Wisconsin 1860 census shows Janette, Daniel and their children Cecelia, Jenet, Mary, and John were living on their farm in section 22 and 23 of the Town of Porter, Wisconsin. As the 1870 census shows no D. Featherstone family in the Town of Porter, they must have moved. Their youngest son, George Henry, was born in Fulton, Wisconsin on July 2, 1869. Family legend reports that Daniel Featherstone and family moved from Wisconsin to Iowa sometime between 1870 and 1880. They reportedly moved by train from Wisconsin to Adams, Minnesota, USA and then continued their journey by horse to Mitchell, Iowa, USA. Once in Mitchell Township they settled on a farm which they purchased over a period of years. In 1901, Janette and Dan sold their farm and retired to the village of Mitchell, Iowa. Here they settled in a lovely stone house which was still standing in 1963. Janette died in January of 1907, at the age of 84. Janette is buried in the Osage Cemetery, Mitchell, Iowa, USA. Daniel continued to live in Mitchell until 1908. At that time he and his son, George Henry, moved to Oakes, North Dakota. Daniel lived George in the Oakes until the time of his death in August 1915. Daniel was buried beside his wife Janette in the Osage Cemetery.
That's about all I have on Daniel Featherstone (b. August 1, 1831 in Cuxton, Kent, England).
