Notes	Ash next Sandwich 1590 November George ffetherstone + Mercye ffoster 27th (her surname and the day I have had to go with the transcript as hard to make out) Ash Next Sandwich, Kent 1597 December George Fetherstone buryed xxx1xty (31st December) Ash-near-Sandwich, a parish and village in the hundred of Wingham, lathe of St. Augustine, in the county of Kent, 3 miles to the W. of Sandwich, and 64 from London. A branch of the river Stour flows along the north border of the parish, and the hamlet of Richborough is included in it. There are several corn mills and a brewery. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is a handsome cruciform Gothic edifice, of the early part of the 13th century. The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland 1868
