New post on Wolverhampton's War James Featherstone by heidimcintosh 1 June 2017 The son of James and Bridget Featherstone, James was born in Wolverhampton in 1888. In 1891, he was living with his parents and grandmother at No 3 Court, Temple Street, Wolverhampton, along with brothers John and Martin. I have not been able to find James or his family in the 1901 or 1911 censuses, but a Midland Counties Express article about him, dated 6 January 1917, stated that he attended SS. Mary and John's School at Snow Hill, Wolverhampton. At the beginning of the war, James enlisted in the 1st Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 9932), first serving in France from 5 October 1915. However, he was killed in action on 3 March 1916 in France, by which date his home address was 8 Bell Street, Wolverhampton. The newspaper article incorrectly states his first initial as "H.". He is commemorated at the Citadel New Military Cemetery, Fricourt. URL: http://wp.me/p2TgWf-2rH
