'James Rodgers 'Red' Featherston, 93, of Memphis, formerly of Marked Tree, owner-operator of Featherston Meat Co. and Marked Tree Firestone Store and president of Marked Tree Equipment Co., died at Cordova (Tennessee) Rehab & Nursing Center. Services will be at Marked Tree First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial in Marked Tree Cemetery. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis has charge. He was a World War II Navy veteran, president of Marked Tree School Board, a Mason, a Shriner, American Legion commander and a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and Poinsett County Developmental Council. Mr. Featherston, the husband of Maxine Featherston, also leaves a daughter, Susan Coates of Monroe, La.; a son, Mike Featherston of Memphis; two sisters, Vera Odom of Gulfport, Miss., and Wanda Swafford of Fort Smith, and five grandchildren. FEATHERSTONE, Jesse – Uncle Jesse Featherstone dropped dead at his home two miles northwest of town yesterday morning about 10 o'clock while attending to his usual daily work. The deceased was 88 years of age and came from Rutherford county, Tennessee about 60 years ago with his twin brother, Pep, who still survives him. FEATHERSTONE, Jesse G. – Jesse G. Featherstone was born Dec. 9th, 1815 in Rutherford county, Tenn, and died of heart failure Aug. 23, 1899, aged 83 years, 9 months and 14 days. He came to Benton county in 1844; was married to Margaret Carroll Oct. 19, 1854; to them were born ten children. He leaves a wife, 8 children, a twin brother and one sister. His death was a great shock to his loved ones as he was suddenly stricken down while at work about the home and could not speak to them the loving comforting words they so longed to hear but left them widowed and fatherless to mourn for one whose place can never be filled. He was a kind, loving father and husband; his children were his pride and he loved them dearly. He professed religion in 1852 and joined the Methodist church. Obituary--FEATHERSTON, Margaret CARROLL –
Margaret Featherston, nee Carroll, was born in Johnston county, Ind. August 1st, 1832. She moved to Shelby county, Mo. with her parents when a child. She moved to Benton county, accepted the Savior and joined the M.E. church, south in 1854 and was married to Jesse Featherston Oct. 18th of the same year. Their union was blessed with ten children, eight of whom, together with one brother and four sisters, survive her. She fell asleep in Jesus Oct. 19th, 1901 and we laid her remains to rest in New Home cemetery on the 20th to await the Resurrection morn. Sister Featherston was a devoted wife, a kind and loving mother and a consecrated Christian. Her sufferings for several days were great but she patiently bore up under it all without a murmur or complaint. May the benediction of Heaven rest on the children who mourn her loss and especially on the daughters who so faithfully attended her every want, and the afflicted one, who will pass many lonely, sad hours with her heart aching for the presence of a loving mother.
