Hello, I'm descended from the George Featherston " of Brenchley" who married Mary Aylard in 1795. I've been at the Centre for Kentish Studies today, and found an entry for the baptism of George Feverstone, son of John and Martha Whibley, 4th July 1773. Is this the Missing Link ?( I'm assuming you are the Paul F. at the Featherstone Society ) Richard Huggett via Genes Reunited 6 June 2006

My other offering, following another trip to the Maidstone archives, is the thought that the Mary Featherstone ( I0995) buried in Brenchley in 1818, aged 48, should be Mary (nee Aylard) wife of George. They married at Pembury in 1795 and, after their first children were seemingly Ticehurst born, their fourth was christened in Brenchley in 1802. The Kentish Gazette Pork Pie story of 1821 refers to the "house of the father of the prisoners where they all lodged" so he, at least, was still alive and in or about the village. I pored over the Brenchley archive hoping to find a likely candidate for the entry for his death/burial. I had no success there, but I could see no other Marys, so I hope you'll consider that she was the right age to be George's wife. (Mary Aylard = I1058 and George Feverstone/ Featherstone =I2462 ) Regards, Richard Huggett richardwh@tiscali.co.uk 20 September 2006

Hello Paul, I haven't made much progress with my Brenchley Featherstone researches lately, but I can offer a solution to the identity of Mary Aylard ( I0994 ) who married George Feverstone at Pembury in 1795. Finding no other Aylards in the Pembury parish records, I began looking in the neighbouring parishes. The parish registers and churchyard memorials at Lamberhurst showed some cases where Aylard was a variant spelling of Aylward, which lead me to the Aylward family of Ticehurst. Sure enough, among the children of John Aylward and Elizabeth Kadwell, I found Mary Aylward, christened at Ticehurst on 27/08/1769. That tallies with the Brenchley burial record of her age being 48 at her death in 1818. The Ticehurst connection may explain why the first three children of the marriage were christened at Ticehurst. I could find no other records of that Mary marrying or dying, so I hope you'll agree with my identification.
